The wrong platform is a multi-year problem

Software decisions are long commitments. The ecommerce platform you implement will shape your integration architecture, daily team workflows, and the total cost of ownership for years to come. Choose the wrong one, and you spend the next 18 months working around it.

It’s easy to see how this could happen. Vendors present demo environments designed to impress. If they don’t know your specific use cases, they can’t show you how they solve your specific business problems. Ecommerce platform demos should help you understand how each platform would meet your needs.

Ntara runs an objective selection process. We start with your requirements, channels, product catalog, current integrations, and your team, then evaluate a short list of platforms against those. The result is a recommendation you can defend, not a demo you liked.

What we do

Requirements definition

Before evaluating any platform, we document your ecommerce needs. We conduct stakeholder interviews across IT, marketing, ecommerce, and sales. Those discussions surface your business requirements, technical constraints, and channel-specific needs. At the end, you get a summary of requirements that becomes the foundation for every subsequent decision.

Platform evaluation & scoring

We evaluate platforms against your documented requirements using a structured scoring methodology. It includes feature fit, licensing model, total cost of ownership, vendor ecosystem, and integration complexity. We present findings and a recommendation with leadership-ready rationale.

Omnichannel content and data strategy

Platform fit depends on content fit. We identify which data should live in PIM, which assets should be governed in DAM, and how both should feed the buying experience. With Ntara, a platform evaluation gives you the full content and syndication picture, not just front-end features.

Roadmap and MVP definition

You walk away with a phased roadmap and a clear MVP scope based on the selected platform. As a result, you can go live with confidence and extend integrations, channels, and features as your requirements evolve.

What you get

Documented requirements brief, aligned across stakeholders

  • Platform evaluation scorecard with findings and final recommendation
  • MVP scope definition and phased implementation roadmap

These artifacts give your team (and any implementation partner) a shared, objective baseline. That way, you can start with a tested blueprint.

What this looks like in practice

Hyster-Yale Materials Handling is a global forklift manufacturer operating two brands across a 350+ branch dealer network in North America. Before any platform work could begin, they needed clarity on what their dealers needed from a digital buying experience. They also needed confidence that whatever platform they chose could support both brands, multiple locations, and PIM-integrated product data.

We conducted PXM research, surveying customers, dealers, and internal stakeholders to establish a requirements baseline. That data became the foundation for platform selection and, ultimately, a unified ecommerce experience that eliminated the portal-switching problem dealers had lived with for years.

When ecommerce platform selection makes sense

  • You’re planning an ecommerce build or replatform and don’t yet have a validated requirements baseline
  • You’ve outgrown your current platform but aren’t sure which direction to move, and don’t want a vendor to answer that question for you
  • Stakeholders across IT, marketing, sales, and product have different definitions of what your ecommerce platform needs to do, and those gaps are slowing decisions
  • Your platform can technically support your channels, but the integration between ERP, PIM, and the front end is fragile, undocumented, or held together by custom workarounds
  • You’re adding a new channel, B2B dealer portal, DTC, distributor feed, and need a platform that can handle multiple audiences without a separate build for each
