About the client

The Outer Banks Hospital (OBH), a division of Vidant Health, is in a unique geographic region where summer tourists far outnumber year-round residents. Those groups have different needs and OBH provides services to benefit each. They came to Ntara in early 2016 with a desire to reach and serve both residents and out-of-town guests better.

The challenge

Summer tourists predominantly use mobile devices, but the OBH mobile site did not have complete information, and the user experience was challenging. Tourists are often looking for urgent care

information and quick access to directions to the facility, so a fast-loading, easy-to-navigate site was a high priority. The refreshed OBH site needed a complete redesign, re-platform, and optimization.

Our approach

Ntara back-end developers cleaned up and connected 17 spreadsheet tables into one master database for their central location. This new database houses information for almost 2,000 providers and 300 locations. In the meantime, front-end developers reworked the site for a faster-loading, easier-to-use, and downright beautiful-looking user experience.

Final experience

The new OBH site is more user-friendly than ever. The new site makes “Urgent Care”, “Find A Doctor”, and “Get Directions” an easy thumb tap away, and provider and location data are more accurate and less cumbersome to manage. Now that the development work is done, other Vidant Health web properties intend to take advantage of it, as well.

“The new Outer Banks Hospital website completely elevates our brand and the value we provide in our community. … Working with Ntara through the Kentico platform, we are now able to deliver information more easily and to simplify the online experience both for those already familiar with our services and those discovering us for the first time.”
